[Roz] Blast from the Past

Last night, I was cleaning out my room, going through old memories from elementary and jr. high days. I came across notes, pictures, drawings and projects I made when I was younger. I flipped through this blue coiled scribbler that contained messages/notes between my elementary friends and I. Were we ever dorks! At the end of the book were dedications wrote by my grade 9 classmates for year end. From reading all the entries from the boys and girls that wrote to me, here's what I was remembered for in Jr. High:

1) I was utterly, totally, absolutely, crazy obsessed with Keanu Reeves.
2) I laughed so hard that I was known for my snorts.
3) I loved soccer just as much as I loved Keanu.
Wow, what a big dork I was! I guess not much has changed now that I think about it. I'm just not as fanatic about Keanu anymore (really!)

Also, came across some photos of when I was younger, which triggered some sweet memories.

This is when I lived in Calgary, and I was probably around 3 old. That's my younger brother, Merv. I remember living this moment as if it was yesterday. Mom and Dad had just filled the pool up and I was so excited that I jumped in it with my clothes on. After scolding me, Mom then made me go change into my cute, red swimsuit. Then, my brother (who's probably about 1 year old) jumps in with his clothes on, and he doesn't even get in trouble! I was SO mad! It's hard work changing into that swim suit when you're 3 years old, and Merv gets off easy when he jumps into the pool with his clothes on! Probably why I don't look so happy in this photo:

I don't remember this picture, but obviously, the horse freaked me out. I have no idea who that man is (probably the care taker of the horse). I like this picture because I am holding Poppy, my favorite stuffed puppy I got on my first Christmas. She's been through the grinder - falling into (clean) toilets 3 times over my lifetime (mom had to hand wash her everytime), losing an eye in a stuffed animal fight with another stuffed animal (don't ask), and having my (late) dog play roughly with her, causing stuffing to fall out. The thing is, I still have her, and she is still my favorite. I can't throw her out, even though she's falling apart. I know Dan would love to throw her into the firepit.

When I went to Dan's parents house, I walked around the place to take a few photos of Dan in his younger years:
Baby Dan taking a bubble bath- awww!

[Roz] This May long weekend was all about relaxing.

On Saturday morning, a few of the Sempeis (assistant instructor) and Senseis (head instructors) from my karate class packed on hockey gear to anticipate an exciting attacks class for the children's karate program. It was the last class of the semester, and as tradition, we allow the kids to come pounce on us as hard as they want. This was my first year participating as a "target".

What usually happens is that the instructors go one or two at a time, and we have scenarios. For example, we can pretend to be an old lady asking for the time, or a kidnapper, and then we are to grab the kid. This is when they would have to use their karate tactics on us. This year, we included music to add some spice to the excitement. Dan came to watch and took a couple pictures. Unfortunetly, the batteries died, so he didn't get any pictures of me in action, only in uniform. Here's me and 30 pounds later....

One guy "WWF"ed me on my back when I was down...I think that was the only time I could have potentially become injured, but luckily, I wasn't too soar the next day.

Saturday PM:Went to Jenny Lynn's cabin party. Dan and I had originally planned to camp there, but because of the heavy wind and lack of sun, we decided to only go for a couple hours and return home that night. I stayed by the camp fire most of the night, trying to keep warm. It was a pretty good party in terms of entertainment, there was a DJ spinning tables, fireworks, and of course, the pleasure to watch drunk people say/do funny things. It even snowed for 5-10 minutes at one point of the night. Eventually, the wind died down, but it was still cold. It's freakin' May and it's snowing... and only 4 days ago, was it 20 degrees outside. Welcome to Canada, where the weather is always unpredictable.

[Roz] Ok, here's what's new:

*I didn't get into the Philosophy class because I would be over my credit limit if I do, since I am doing my internship. Anyways, it's 3 hours every Tues and Thursday, so it probably would have been a bit much, seeing that I work full time.

*Visited Dan's sister, Caroline and her super cute baby, Amanda on Sunday...

...and saw her walk on her own for the first time!!!

*Joined a new soccer team, Lions, and had our first game yesterday. I haven't played outdoor soccer since high school (that was four years ago!) so still trying to get back into it. I forgot how wide the field was! Despite the rustiness, I think I played ok, got an assist with a (don't mean to brag here, but PERFECT) corner kick and Rhiannon booted it in. We ended up tying the game 2-2. Not bad considering, most of us met for the first time last night and the other team has been playing together indoor all season.

*Been working out hardcore, (as Dan puts it) - going to the gym about 5-6 times a week. Trying to get bikini ready for the houseboat trip, which is coming up at the end of June! YAY!

[R] Last night, Joe had a party at his cabin out in Buck Lake...I know, you're thinking, where?! It's about an hour and a half away south of Edmonton, not too far off Pigeon Lake. It was a cozy looking cabin and quite a place to party. I did bring my camera, but didn't end up taking any photos. Too busy playing drinking games with cards, consuming alcohol and chatting up some real interesting stories with others. There was also a camp fire, (Dan was sitting out there) - I meant to join the group outside but got too engrossed in this girl, Jean's, life stories about why she came to Canada (orginally from Belize) and her different and interesting experiences. The room we ended up sleeping in was nice...except for the house flies flying around the top of the closet and on the window. Ewww! Regardless, it was a fun night, thanks Joe!

On a different note, I received my program check to make sure that I have taken all the courses I need to graduate next year. Unfortunetly, I have to face what I've been trying to avoid for the last 3 years - which is, taking another philosophy course. I took Philosophy 101 in my first year, thinking it was going to be such an interesting class - boy was I wrong! I hated it so much, and vowed never to take another philosophy class again. Much to my dislike, I find out that it is mandatory to take Philosophy 102 following 101. Then I heard the university was trying to change this, so that's why I put it off for so long...unfortunetly, they didn't change this policy fast enough. Grrrr. So I found out that Phil 102 is being offered in Spring...and it starts THIS WEEK! I'm having troubles registering into the class for some reason, so I'll have to call the university tomorrow to see if I can get in. I figure, 6 weeks of philosophy doesn't sound so bad compared to four months!!! Wish me luck for getting into the spring course!
