A Surprise from a Dear Friend
I meant to post this pic awhile ago. Two Fridays ago, on the week I defended my thesis, I received the most beautiful bouquet of flowers I've ever gotten, delivered to my home. They were a Congrats gift from my sweetheart of a friend, Mary, who lives in British Columbia. She sent them to me to congratulate me on successfully accomplishing my therapist dream. Thank you Mary! Big hugs and kisses! I was certainly surprised!!!! It made my day!
So what's in store for me now? I am planning to charter as a psychologist. This will require that I get a job with an agency in which a Chartered or Ph.D Psychologist can supervise me for 1500 hours (or I can hire a supervisor, but that's like $120/hr- egads!). Together, the supervisor and I will need to come up with a plan for my application (which is a whole other process, and forking out more money) to become a Chartered psychologist. I also need to write a test called the EPPP , and it costs $500. Yikes! I plan to take about 1-1.5 years to go through this process.
I had an interview to be a part time school therapist for an inner city school in Edmonton through the agency where I counselled at. The interview was actually very gruelling and challenging, and it was a great learning opportunity/experience. I think it went well. The more the interviewers told me about the job, the more I wanted it. It's not strict therapy with kids, like I initially believed it to be. Rather, I would also be collaborating with teachers, principles, community supports and especially parents to design and plan programs for these kids, so that we can work on the deeper issues , as opposed to putting a "band-aid" over the problems. I'm so excited. I know I've probably got competition, but wow, this would be so amazing if I got the job!!! Wish me luck!
If I got the job, it would also be perfect because the other half of the time, I would be building my own private practice that Linda, Sholly, Meens, Christine and I want to have. We got to figure out all the insurance stuff and office space...then market ourselves. I'm really excited to see what the following year has in store for us!!!!!
